The Depth Scavengers [By NoodleStoat]

Roaming the oceans always seeking adventures and challenges - that's what unites those five passionate girls:
Freggie the frog, Ta'hira the otter, Varra the vaporeon and Pela the penguin plus their trainer, Dorra the dolphin.
While you would encounter this team often on a boat, they are neither sailors nor pirates but freedivers!

Proudly they wear their team symbol on their blue and red, skintight wetsuits and call themselves [b]The Depth Scavengers[/b]~


[b]Here an aquaphilic overview of this special team~[/b]

Besides participating in scavenging operations (conducted on their own or on behalf of clients), exploring and participating in freediving tournaments are their typical pastime. Their favorite ones beeing free-immersion dives as a team where they can make use of certain tricks.
Under Dorra's careful supervision, they have optimized their skill and found ways to work together more closely than one would expect. Sharing their breath through kisses is a given and the base of their team skill. It's crucial however, since after all their stand-alone, active breathholding times are vastly different:

The semi feral penguin Pela has the longest time with dry lungs, able to keep kicking over [b]25 minutes[/b]. Long enough that she often forgets that she's even holding her breath at all. Her lung volume is not very high however and her beaks makes her uable to share air with Dorra's blowhole directly.

As far as being safe is concerned, Freggie easily tops her however as remainders of her feral ancestors ability to absorb oxygen through her skin gives her a safety guard. When she eventually has to succumb to letting water into her lungs after about [b]9 minutes[/b], she enters a drowsy state where she gradually has to cease swimming. It ends with her falling asleep but her skin keeps her body alive for days if necessary and she'll wake up immediately upon coming in contact with fresh air.
If counting her very stretchy cheeks, she has the greatest lung volume of them all, even surpassing Dorra.

Ta'hira and Varra are both a middle ground in terms of volume as well as time, topping at around [b]15 minutes[/b] on one breath on their own.
One may be surprised that the watertye vaporeon does need air at all, but having hatched as an eevee with severe asthma, she evolved into a vaporeon who does not have issues breathing air but is entirely unable to make use of oxygen in water. This never kept her from diving though and with the Depth Scavengers she found fellow to train with.
Ta'hira's origin is more fortunate. Born as part of the tribe leader family on a secluded island inhabited only by otters, she headed out into the world to explore where her caring nature was highly welcomed by the rest of the team.

Finally there is their trainer and founder of the team Dorra who ironically, has the lowest time without air of them, usually succumbing to the water after about [b]6 minutes[/b] if she receives no help and cannot seal her blowhole (for which she uses a plug outside of official contests).
While this is sub par for her kind and caused by a breathing reflex that is way stronger than it should be in dolphins, she has built up a high tolerance to CO2 while able to keep functioning. Being native to the water, her lungs are at least resilient to water, able to drown without harm as long as she receives CPR before oxygen in her unsconscious body actually runs out (which takes about 10 minutes).
What she lacks in ability to keep her air without help, she makes up for in strength and speed, even surpassing Pela easily thanks to her strong flukes.
Furthermore she has studied many techniques that help all kind of freedivers to improve their times and she is an indulgent yet motivating partner to train with.


To sum this up, Dorra can easily help the others swim faster and regular air kisses, no matter how stale the air, keep her going. Freggie can provide air to several others thanks to her cheeks and usually does so early on a dive to continue with water in her chest if the mission does not require her to swim very much later on.
Both Varra and Ta'hira could fend for themselves overall, but receving some breathe from Freggie even if they pass it on to Dorra later, allows their lungs to keep moving and thus stay more relaxed.
Pela usually has a special role on their missions. Being agile and almost independent of air, she gives up part of her breath when necessary - albeit her beak does not allow her to do so with Dorra directly - and otherwise acts as a scout when exploring.

With all this in their repertoire, the challenge today is almost too easy. The goal are 100 meters or 330 feet.
All well on air, they decide to pose instead, much to the delight of the controllers of the RC drone that films them.
Varra can't resist to play with the small flag at the bottom of the guidance rope while the others are in more direct show-off mood it seems~

P.s. Yes am well aware Pela is breaking the rules of Free Immersion diving by wearing those short fins of hers - I just love her with fins
