Babil Khan, fresh off the success of his gripping cyber-thriller Logout, is not just carving a space for himself on screen—but also on paper. The young actor, who’s been lauded for his raw and authentic performances, recently shared that he plans to eventually drop his surname “Khan"—a decision deeply influenced by his late father, the iconic Irrfan.

In a candid chat with Filmfare, Babil reflected on his family’s royal legacy and what it means to walk a path defined more by individuality than inheritance. When asked about Irrfan Khan’s aristocratic roots, he chuckled and said, “I’m a prince!" But the humour quickly gave way to reflection, as he added, “My grandfather gave it all up. He detached himself from that life completely."

Following in those footsteps, Babil revealed that his father had deliberately stopped using the “Khan" surname later in his career. Inspired by that choice, Babil said he, too, plans to shed the surname one day—not as a statement, but as a step toward personal identity. “The lineage makes you a part of this conformity," he explained. “It doesn’t let you get to your individuality… To let your individuality shine, you have to let go of your lineage."

He was quick to clarify, however, that the move holds no ideological or moral intent. “It’s not some agenda," he said. “It’s just about being true to who I am."

Babil often shares emotional tributes to his father on social media. In one post, he wrote, “You taught me to be a warrior, but engage with love and kindness. You don’t have fans—you have a family. And I promise you, Baba, I will fight for our people and our family till you call upon me."

Currently streaming on ZEE5, Logout features Babil as Pratyush Dua—a wildly popular social media influencer on the cusp of hitting 10 million followers. But when his phone mysteriously disappears, Pratyush’s digital life spirals into chaos, forcing him to confront the toxic price of online validation. The film is directed by Amit Golani and penned by Biswapati Sarkar, with a stellar production team including Kevin Vaz, Ajit Andhare, Sameer Saxena, Saurabh Khanna, and Golani himself.

As Babil forges ahead, balancing his father’s legacy with his own ambitions, he’s making one thing clear: he’s here to be known not just as Irrfan Khan’s son—but as Babil. Just Babil.
